What can we do to diversify clinical practice within pharmacy postgraduate training programs? Ask PGY2 pharmacy residents Dr. Yodit Teklu and Dr. Maya Bell! In JACCP, they provide a guide on how concentrated diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts are crucial in expanding retention of minoritized individuals in preceptor/leadership roles for future generations!

Recruiting equitably into postgraduate training is a necessary step to diversify our profession. In this article, they discuss the importance of first developing necessary protocols to quantify the number of underrepresented minoritized trainees who occupy residency and fellowship roles. These data would allow for advocating for affordable pricing for national pharmacy meetings and networking opportunities. In addition, they call for holistic processes to decrease recruitment biases and integration of DEI initiatives within postgraduate programs to allow for pharmacy trainees and programs to thrive, with the ultimate goal of promoting equitable health outcomes.

Special thanks to Dr. Jacinda Abdul-Mutakabbir and Dr. Ila Saunders for mentoring Drs. Teklu and Bell on this publication!
